Fixed-Fee Pricing Option
Why Fixed Fee Pricing Makes Sense
for Cross-Border Legal Services
An undeniable truism
of legal service is that the law is rarely cheap. The only thing more
expensive is not getting legal advice.
But Korea
has a reputation as being an outrageously expensive place to seek legal
advice. We can't say that Aurora Law Offices is cheap, even though we
believe we offer better value. But we can try to reduce shock at the
cost of services through our Fixed-Fee Pricing Option. Together with
our unique 100% Service Guarantee, client risk is abolished.
Our idea to offer clients fixed fee pricing was hatched
while working at other law firms. One of them, which had a significant foreign
client base, also coincidentally had a problem collecting invoices from
those foreign clients. We suppose the clients, upon receiving the bill at
the conclusion of work, concluded that the law firm wasn't delivering
appropriate value.
One problem is that time-based measurement of legal
services doesn't translate well across borders. What takes an attorney two
hours in New York may take 20 in Seoul. But how does the client know
when the lawyers are diligently working on matters which just happen to
take longer in Korea than elsewhere, as opposed to padding the bill?
There's no way to know for sure.
So long as the firm bills clients by the hour, and
measures its attorneys by how many hours they bill, clients will always
have that gnawing question.
This uncertainty is magnified when dealing with a
foreign law firm, simply because the cultural context for mutual trust
just isn't there.
Instead of billing by the hour, Aurora Law Offices
prefers to quote a client a fee in advance of undertaking work. And
then once we've made that promise, we deliver at the agreed price. It
removes the uncertainty and anxiety for the client, and significantly
improves the experience of doing business in Korea.
